Why it's More Important Than Ever to Get Your Child Tested Before the School Year Begins

I hope that you and your family are keeping healthy and safe. Needless to say, this has been a difficult time for us all, as we-- individually and as a community-- navigate our way forward and adjust to an ever-changing set of challenges.

Though I have been offering services throughout the pandemic through in-home video conferencing, I am excited to announce that I am gently re-opening my office for modified, in-person, socially distanced evaluations. Evaluations are appropriate for clients who are struggling in different ways, be they academics, difficulty with focus/concentration, stress and other emotional or behavioral challenges.

Why have your child tested now?

There has never been a more important time to have your child assessed!

Why?

With so much uncertainty regarding the nature, quantity, and quality of instruction these days, and your child’s unique response to it, it is difficult if not impossible to truly know where your child stands based on objective benchmarks. This kind of clarity is critical as you begin negotiating what school will look like for your child.

All educational formats are not equally appropriate for all students. It's critical for parents to have the information they need to advocate for their children's ongoing academic and emotional success.

Whether your child has never been tested before and you're concerned about his or her wellbeing and performance, or whether your child has been tested previously and you want an updated understanding of his or her trajectory, educational testing will provide information about how best to proceed this fall based on your child's individualized learning profile.

Safety First

With your safety as my foremost concern, I am re-opening the office cautiously. I am maintaining strict adherence to state and CDC guidelines so as to keep you child safe. I am happy to talk through the details of our comprehensive policy to ensure that you are comfortable with the hybrid setup.

Program Details

  • Throughout the testing process, myself as the psychologist and my client are in separate spaces within the same office suite, connected via a secure telehealth platform. This allows for safe social distancing throughout the testing process.

  • My office is equipped with a computer with video conferencing and a document camera. This enables the patient/child to see me as well as necessary visual stimuli that can be presented either via screen share.

  • The client's testing space is equipped with a computer (with videoconferencing), document camera (so I can monitor written work), and an additional device that captures other angles so that I can make more thorough behavioral observations.

  • For younger children, next to the client's work space will be a parent/caregiver area, which will allow the parent/caregiver to be nearby and reachable in case the child needs assistance.
