Why Pursue Educational and Neuropsychological Testing?
If your child is struggling, think of them as a boat taking on water:
What we can see is water in the boat- in the case of your child this could be behavior issues, learning struggles, attentional challenges. or emotional disturbances.
What We Can’t See Is What Is Going on Under the Boat
We know there are holes – likely several – but we don’t know the nature or size of them. The purpose of the evaluation is to determine what is going on under the boat so we can stop it from sinking so the boat can sail smoothly forward.
Through a combination of interviews and dialogue, standardized tests, and experienced clinical judgment, we can make this happen together.
If you are weary from spending your time and resources bailing out water but not making any progress, let's talk.
For the past 15 years, I have been performing Educational and Neuropsychological evaluations with children, adolescents and adults. These are people who struggle in school, emotionally, socially and, often, all of the above. But, it is my personal journey that informs my work more than anything
Overview of Services
Educational & Neuropsychological Evaluations
An educational and neuropsychological evaluation assesses cognitive abilities, academic skills, social/emotional functioning, and behavior.
Observations
In rare cases, a classroom observation is needed. As a supplement to the standard protocols, Dr. Koffman is happy to serve as a professional observer of the child’s behavior in context.
Adult Evaluations
Adult neuropsychological testing involves the examination of such concerns as attention, organization, memory and those in connection with clinical/psychiatric questions.
*Since each selection of evaluations and assessments are individually tailored to each patient, these descriptions are general.
Client Testimonials
“Thank you for the great work you did in helping us with my daughter. This is never an easy process and is hard to begin as a parent and as a child. You were recommended to us and I am grateful for that. I wasn't sure how my daughter would react to this evaluation. She is quiet, doesn't like much attention and is extremely private. I was worried she would put up a shield and we wouldn't be able to get an accurate diagnosis. She was trepidatious at the start. But as soon as she met you, even via Zoom, she felt comfortable and ready to do this. I thought this could be a bit grueling at times for her, but after her first day, she told me she was actually enjoying the testing. Your explanations and encouragement along the way not only put her at ease, but made her even more interested in the testing itself and I believe this lead to her opening up even more. Getting her there for the second day was no trouble at all. I was surprised at the turnaround time for getting the report to us, as I worried it would take long. We felt that your observations were extremely insightful and accurate. Having the evaluation has been an asset to us. It has helped us to get her the different levels of help she needed. We are grateful to you for your skill, your vast knowledge, your kind demeanor, your clear communications and the way you show your clients/patients that you respect them.”
Thank you.

“Thank you so much for all of your insight, knowledge, and expertise. And especially your kindness and caring. I got choked up right before we got off the phone to hear you full of hope and positivity. I feel like we are on the right track.”
-Parent of a 16-year-old with ADHD and Anxiety.
Hello Dr. Koffman: It's my pleasure to share that your two former patients are doing well. R is an LMSW, although now remotely, of course. D is at University getting a PhD. Your work with them was an integral part of their journey in so many ways and we think of you often.
- Parent of siblings tested in middle school, reflecting on their children's subsequent success.
We have worked with Dr. Koffman for the last 13 years. He initially evaluated our son in 4th grade and most recently evaluated him as a college senior. When the public school brought concerns to our attention we were nervous and unsure. Dr. Koffman took the time to explain how child study teams, IEP’s, 504’s and the testing he would do would work. It was a smooth process as he tested our son over several days and then met with us to explain his findings and recommendations. We then took that information back to our son’s school. Dr. Koffman was instrumental in the re-evaluation process every 3 years especially when the county felt our son no longer needed services as a rising high school senior. Most recently Dr. Koffman evaluated our son as some of his needs have changed. The relationship our son and our family has formed with Dr. Koffman has been instrumental in the success our child has experienced. This success has translated into self confidence, strong GPA, many college acceptances and now going on to graduate school. We have been very fortunate to have been able to work with Dr. Koffman for all of these years.
- From a long-time patient.
We entered this process after many years of trying to manage behaviors and academics on our own at home. We finally felt it was time to get our son evaluated as the levels of frustration in our home were rising and happiness falling. Dr. Koffman explained the steps and goals of the testing very clearly, made our son feel comfortable with the process prior to evaluation and has set up a very safe environment for assessment. Upon completion we were given a clear diagnosis and plan of action that left us feeling armed with the tools to help our son navigate school and our family to achieve more understanding and happiness.
- A parent’s reflection after years of looking for answers.
Both of my children have had comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations performed by Dr. Koffman. Before having an evaluation done for my older child, I was not aware of what it entailed. Dr. Koffman was friendly and helpful, reassuring me in my decision to proceed forward. He made both of my children feel comfortable and positive during the evaluation process. The comprehensive feedback gave me a lot of information with each of my children, helping me to make decisions for them academically, socially, and emotionally. I have also given Dr. Koffman’s name out to other friends seeking neuropsychological consultations and evaluations. I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in this process.
